Ughhh the dreaded potty training era. We are working on potty training Buggy and he is doing really well. He has regressed a little because his older brother watched Skibidi Toilet one time. 😑
Potty training is a huge milestone and can be SO exciting and also overwhelming for both you and your toddler. As a Mom of four, I’ve learned that no two kids potty train the same way! Some are eager, some are hesitant and others need a little extra time - and that’s totally okay!
If you’re gearing to ditch the diapers and in this amazing stage of life with your little- here are some tips that have helped me train our kiddos! ⤵️
Signs of Readiness
Before you start this potty training journey, you should watch for signs that your child is actually ready for it. Some of these signs include:
*Staying dry more frequently
*Showing interest and mimicking
*Pulling up and pulling down their own pants
*Letting you know when they are wet or dirty
Pick a Method that Fits Lifestyle
Before starting the process choose a method. There are so many to pick from! We have used three different methods for our three, now potty trained boys. We’ve used:
*Potty Training in 3 days
*Rewards System
*A Potty Watch (will link below)
There are other methods, we just found those worked the best for our boys!
Make it Fun!
Let your child pick out their favorite undies, stickers, toys… keep it positive and playful!
Stay Consistent
Routine, routine, routine! Some days will be better than others but try and keep a consistent schedule. Encourage potty breaks after meals, before bed, after wake up time. We set my son’s potty watch at first for every 30 mins then increased the time as he progressed!
Use Praise
Celebrate all the WINS. Even the small ones!
Sat on the potty? YAYY
Pulled down their own pants? WHOOP!
Staying dry longer than typical? YESSSS!
*Remember! Never punish for accidents. They are part of the process!
Prepare for Setbacks
Sometimes regressions happen and they are totally normal! Just keep on with routine and patience.
Keep Perspective
All kids are different and learn at their own pace! Keep encouraging your child and it will click!
Final Thoughts
Potty training takes patience, humor, and lots of grace—for them and for you. Every child’s journey is different, and that’s perfectly okay. Celebrate the little victories and know that this season, like all others, won’t last forever.
You’ve got this, mama
